The San Diego Veterans For Peace will display its “Hometown Arlington West Memorial” from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 11, on the front lawn of the USS Midway Museum, 910 N. Harbor Drive, San Diego. Chapter veterans from all branches of the military will honor the 300 fallen service members from Southern California who died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, with special memorial markers, according to a news release.
The Veterans For Peace, and other groups, are trying to get congress to rename the date of Nov. 11 from Veterans Day back to Armistice Day, its original title, which recognized the end of hostilities in World War 1, and which applauded the peace that began on No. 11, the news release stated.
The public is invited to come down and walk quietly among the headstones, respectfully read the names of the fallen, ring the bell, and help the veterans put the headstones out at 6:30 a.m. and put them away at 4 p.m. For additional information, contact USAF Veteran David Patterson at 760-207-9139 or Dpatterson998@yahoo.com.
