Re Opulent La Jolla oceanside mansion on sale for $108M (Oct. 23): Whether intentional or not, Wednesdays front page presented a glaring contrast, with the main story about the $108 million offering of a La Jolla monument to vulgarity and excess sharing the page with a story about people at the other end of the economic ladder (County to audit disaster housing handler, Oct. 23). These people were displaced by severe flooding in January due to negligent upkeep of city flood channels, losing most of their possessions, then were revictimized and largely disrespected by an agency whose one purpose was to help them. Your front page highlighted in starkest terms the inequalities in American society today.
