For the second year in a row, Canyon Crest Academy hosted a Diwali Chat Night as a fundraiser for the school’s chapter of Child Rights and You (CRY) America, a way to celebrate the Hindu festival of lights while contributing to social good. The Indian cultural celebration at Ocean Air Park benefitted CRY, a nonprofit that helps underprivileged children in India receive healthcare, education and protection from exploitation such as child labor and marriage.
Canyon Crest Academy Senior Rhea Rupareliya founded the CRY chapter as a way to inspire her fellow students and her community.
“Our goal is to make a difference for children without the privileges we have,” shared Rhea in an email. “Diwali Chat Night is a way for us to give back, celebrate our heritage and strengthen our community.”
Students who helped Rhea plan this year’s successful event included her sister Roha Rupareliya, Saanvi Rao, Anika Ranjan, and Koushik Jandhyala.
