TRENDING
Up — A former minor league pitcher who broke through with the Diamondbacks as a 26-year-old in 2014, Peralta won a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger award in nine years in Arizona. He was a .283/.340/.463 hitter during a tenure that ended with the Diamondbacks trading him to Tampa Bay for a prospect in July 2022. Peralta spent the next year as a role player in Los Angeles (.675 OPS), but he needed elbow surgery after the season and could only land a minor league deal with the Cubs coming into 2024. Peralta, however, did not make it out of Triple-A Iowa before he was cut loose, allowing him the opportunity to sign with the Padres. Peralta played just three games with Triple-A El Paso before his call-up to San Diego, where he emerged as a key contributor in right field while
Fernando Tatis Jr. was on the injured list with a stress reaction in his femur. In addition to his platoon success (see stat to note) and the positive presence in the clubhouse, Peralta was especially productive in a starting role, hitting .282/.343/.446 across 66 starts in the regular season and .301/.348/.476 as a right fielder, compared to .243/.364/.405 as a DH. Peralta did not get into a game in the wild-card series against the Braves, but he hit .308/.308/.614 with a homer, a double and four RBIs in five appearances against the Dodgers in the NLDS.
