In the Encinitas Union School District race, teacher and parent Monica Lee is the top vote-getter with the incumbent Marlon Taylor in position to win the second seat 32.52%
Jillian Cocayne, who works for Qualcomm, trails slightly with 32.16% of the vote.
For EUSDs short-term two-year seat, Tom Morton appears to be pulling away from candidate Aimee Sproul. Morton, who works as a farrier shoeing horses, was appointed to the board in 2023.
Encinitas Union School District’s general obligation bond Measure Z, which requires 55% to pass, is currently sitting at 55.68% with 16,563 voters in support. The $158.3 million bond will provide for school facility improvement projects at all nine campuses, from replacing leaky roofs and addressing sewage needs to expanding undersized classrooms and other learning spaces to meet student needs. Some of the priority projects include replacing aging portables with permanent classrooms, improving outdoor learning spaces and playgrounds, building a new special education preschool building at Flora Vista, and addressing specific needs at older schools such as Paul Ecke, Ocean Knoll and Capri.
The last time a facilities improvement bond was passed for Encinitas was in November 2010 for $44 million.
The race is tight in San Dieguito Union High School Districts Area 2 with Encinitas Union School District board member Jodie Williams currently leading with 50.40% and Kelly Friis, parent and finance professional, closely behind her at 49.60%—just 112 votes separating the two.
Area 2 represents Encinitas and Carlsbad on the school board.
In San Dieguitos Area 4, incumbent Michael Allman is leading challenger and political campaign consultant Kevin Sabellico with 52.59% of the vote, or 6,574 votes to Sabellico’s 5,926. The Area 4 seat represents the communities of Del Mar, Carmel Valley and Rancho Santa Fe.
In the Cardiff School District, the incumbents Rhea Stewart and Nancy Orr look poised for re-election although Richard Brocchini, parent and South Bay fire battalion chief, trails closely.
