A 63-year-old man injured his back Sunday afternoon when his hang glider made a hard landing on a remote hillside near the Black Mountain Open Space Glider Port, officials said.

Emergency workers hoisted the man onto a helicopter and flew him to nearby ball field, where he was transferred to an ambulance that took him to a hospital, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue officials.

A total of 31 personnel were assigned to the call, including one rescue unit, one medic and two engines. The hard landing was reported around 1:25 p.m. off Black Mountain Road near Carmel Valley Road, officials said.

No other information about the man was immediately available.
