Sixty active military from the greater San Diego area, and as far away as 29 Palms, partnered with Crosby members to enjoy a beautiful day of golf and mutual appreciation. The Crosby Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe and its members hosted their 19th annual Military Appreciation Day on Nov. 8. Sixty active military from the greater San Diego area, and as far away as 29 Palms, partnered with Crosby members to enjoy a beautiful day of golf and mutual appreciation.The Military Appreciation Committee Chair Paul Lebidine, BG (RET) USMC, has devoted considerable time and effort into making this a very special event for the military attendees and where club members get to personally say a heartfelt and meaningful, “Thanks for your service!”After an early continental breakfast and warm-ups at the range, opening remarks and photo opportunities, a beautiful a cappella rendition of the national anthem was sung by Debbie Anthony. Foursomes made up of two military and two members got underway for a great day of scramble format golf under an exceptional November day, a news release stated.Participating Crosby members fund most of the expenses for the event. Each participant received a special ball cap commemorating the event and military were provided an event special golf towel. The top three teams received trophies and special prizes were given for long drives and closest to the pin.Anthony Valverde, committee member and The Crosby Director of Golf, noted in the news release that ”Having the opportunity to share our club and show our appreciation directly to all those who serve our country is a special honor and one of the year’s absolute highlights here at The Crosby.”After the golf, all enjoyed a wonderful lunch prepared by The Crosby’s excellent chef. Leadership coach and dynamic speaker Jim Brogan gave a stimulating talk on becoming an effective, consistent leader with sustained results. Rev. Dr. Jack Baca, senior pastor at the Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe, closed the event with some very inspirational words of thanks.All the military and members who participated received Crosby Challenge coins minted especially for this event. The coins, provided by committee members Jeff Byroads, Peter Shapiro and Joe Farinelli, are now typically handed out as a token of appreciation for a job well done, especially for those serving as part of a military operation, and also signify a person is a member of a particular unit.
