Veterans Day parades and patriotic programs across San Diego County: A 2024 guide

Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’ The Old Globe’s 27th annual production of this holiday classic is based on a 1957 children’s book by the late La Jolla author Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel. Kat Von D: Tattoo artist, author and musician Kat Von D dropped her second album, “My Side of the Mountain,” in September and will be performing songs off the record at the Music Box. In 2021, Von D released her first album with gothic, post-punk and synth sounds. Mexican-born and San Diego-raised artist Prayers will open the show. 8 p.m. Monday. Rainbow Kitten Surprise: North Carolina indie rock band Rainbow Kitten Surprise is promoting its latest record “Love Hate Music Box,” its first album in six years. In 2017, the band performed at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, and in 2018, NPR named “Fever Pitch” as one of its favorite songs. 7 p.m. Tuesday. Art group runs virtual workshop: The North County Society of Fine Arts runs a virtual workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 12 featuring John Erwin, an urban sketcher. Erwin will focus on capturing a San Diego landmark using pencil, pen, markers and watercolor. The workshop via Zoom begins with social time at 11:30 a.m., followed by the workshop from noon to 3 p.m. Cost is $50; $40 for members. Register at ncsfa.org/workshops/john erwin.

Panel discussion on art about forest regeneration: A panel discussion on “How Do We Regenerate a Forest? Thinking with the Harrisons” is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 12 at the San Diego Central Library, 330 Park Blvd. The discussion will explore artwork in the exhibit “Helen & Newton Harrison: California Work” at the library’s Judith Harris Art Gallery, and how the art addresses “the crisis in our forests in the north and our local terrain in San Diego.” Visit sandiego.gov/public-library/central-library.

Musiq Soulchild: In 2000, singer and songwriter Musiq Soulchild released his debut album “Aijuswanaseing” and lead single “Just Friends (Sunny).” His second single “Love” spent 21 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Misery: Backyard Renaissance Theatre presents William Goldmans stage adaptation of the Stephen King novel about an obsessive and violent fan who kidnaps her favorite author. Tora: The Australian four-piece indie electronic band Tora dropped new music for the first time in three years with the album “Temps de Flors.” Now they are touring and marketing the new album with a stop at the Belly Up. Family challah baking event: A family challah baking event for the community is at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Chabad of Oceanside/Vista, 1930 Sunset Drive. Participants can brush up their braiding and kneading skills and make challah dough to take home to bake for Shabbat. The event is in partnership with Shabbat San Diego and part of the global Shabbat Project. Advanced registration is required. Space is limited. Doors open at 4 p.m. Cost is $18 per dough. Christmas Celebration: SeaWorld San Diegos annual holiday festivities will include a new feature this year: a Mrs. Claus Christmas Parade. She will move through the park with a procession of themed characters and floats each day of the season. Also new this year, visitors will find a live holiday character show in the Mission Bay Theater and a show called A Stocking Full of Soul featuring classical holiday music in the Nautilus Amphitheater. Among the long list of festive activities this year is also photos with Santa, a snowfall experience, a holiday lights display, a laser light show and Coca-Cola Lane.
