A man was critically injured Monday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle while running across a street in Vista outside of the crosswalk, a sheriffs spokesperson said.

The crash was reported just after 2 p.m. on Sycamore Avenue near Shadowridge Drive. The preliminary investigation showed the man was trying to run east across Sycamore Avenue before he was struck, sheriffs officials said.

The vehicles driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, officials said.
