Leodalis De Vries’ first full year of pro ball has come to an end.
It was an eventful first year.
The 18-year-old shortstop finished his stay in the Arizona Fall League with two homers in 18 games played with the Peoria Javelinas. The second came a day after coming off the bench in the Fall Star Games last weekend, a spot he earned as a participant in the fan vote.
All told, the switch-hitting De Vries drove in nine runs, stole three bases in three attempts and hit .179/.269/.313 as the youngest player in the Arizona Fall League.
De Vries signed for $4.2 million out of the Dominican Republic in January and made his professional debut in April at low Single-A Lake Elsinore. There, De Vries was hitting .238/.361/.442 with 11 homers, 38 RBIs and 13 steals in 75 games when a right shoulder strain ended his regular season.
De Vries, however, rehabbed the injury in time represent the Padres in the Arizona Fall League on the Peoria Javelinas, who went 8-20 and missed the playoffs in the six-team league.
The season came to an end Saturday.
De Vries should progress to high Single-A Fort Wayne in 2025 and will likely receive an invite to big-league camp.
