But Ahmed’s OPS dropped to .619 in the ensuing full season, a shoulder injury limited him to 17 games in 2022 (.702 OPS) and he was released in September 2023 with a .562 OPS. Ahmed’s first outside the Diamondbacks’ organization did not go as planned as he played in just 57 games with the Giants (.581 OPS), 17 with the Dodgers (.537 OPS) and only appeared in Padres games — one at second and one at short — after San Diego clinched the top wild-card spot. The Padres needed Ahmed as an insurance policy after Ha-Seong Kim sustained his shoulder injury in August and even rostered him for the wild-card series against the Braves, although Ahmed did not get into a postseason game.
