The early bird gets the dozen

If you see an extra long line of cars inching forward on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and several other San Diego County surface streets early tomorrow, this may be why: Krispy Kreme is giving away free boxes of a dozen doughnuts, with no purchase necessary.

The gift is available to the first 500 customers tomorrow.

The occasion: World Kindness Day, marked yearly on Nov. 13.

A little kindness (& a dozen) go a long way!) the company said in a social media post Tuesday morning.

Doughnut chompers can show up at the drive-thru or step into the store, at participating locations, to receive their dozen.

World Kindness Day is a reminder that we can all make a positive impact in people’s lives, including through small gestures like sharing a sweet treat. We hope that each dozen original glazed doughnuts we give away enables and inspires many dozens of small acts of kindness, Dave Skena, Krispy Kremes global chief brand officer, said in a news release.

The chains seasonal Thanksgiving flavors, which were recently released, include a pumpkin spice cake doughnut and an apple crumble doughnut, which has apple pie filling, a pie crust flavored buttercream lattice and cinnamon cookie crumb topping.

San Diego County has five Krispy Kreme shops, scattered from Chula Vista in South County to West Vista Way in Oceanside. Temecula also has a shop.

Lets grab some scratch paper for a quick calculation: With five locations in the county, and 500 visitors each getting a dozen doughnuts, how many free doughnuts will San Diego County Krispy Kreme shop give away? 30,000.

Athleisure flagship opens in Oceanside

Municipal, an athleisure clothing brand founded by Mark Wahlberg and Harry Arnett — the two-time Oscar nominated actor and producer, and the golf executive, respectively — is opening a flagship store in Oceanside on Thursday.

The company sells premium performance and style-driven athletic and casual apparel, according to a news release.

The new store, at 1722 S. Coast Highway, will sell mens and womens clothes and footwear. It will have an in-store cafe and a barber shop. Part of its space will be reserved for the companys corporate offices, which are moving to that location as well. This is Municipals second brick-and-mortar store. The first opened in Los Angeles this summer.

The athleisure slice of the fashion market includes Alo, Lululemon and Encintas-based Vuori, whose valuation recently hit $5.5 billion.

Mark Wahlberg has 65 acting credits and has produced 45 films, according to IMDB.com. These include Boogie Nights, The Departed, Invincible and crime thriller Flight Risk.

Harry Arnett led marketing at Callaway Golf and before that, worked at TaylorMade Golf.

“Time to go pursue my dreams actually,” he said, according to Canadian golf magazine Score Golf, before he left Callaway in 2019. “I’ll fill you in on what’s next when I’m allowed to talk about it. Heading outside of golf.” He co-founded Municipal that same year.

A grand re-opening

A McDonalds on Rosecrans Street in Point Loma, shuttered for a complete demolition and rebuild, is reopening today.

“Our recent renovations were designed to enhance the customer experience with a new drive-thru and mobile order pick up windows to provide quality food, even faster, to our brand fans,” its owner and operator, Chris Rowe, wrote in an emailed statement. The restaurant is near the intersection of Rosecrans Street and Nimitz Boulevard.

Here are a few highlights from the grand re-opening, which runs from noon to 5 p.m.:

The community was invited to celebrate with free samples of menu classics (while supplies last), prize giveaways, and an appearance from Grimace, a brand representative wrote in an email.
