Huerta, a farm-fresh street taco spot recently opened up shop at Fox Point Farms in Encinitas.
The open-air taco stand will blend bounty from the farm with bold Mexican flavors, courtesy of Chef Lety Gonzalez. Gonzalez, a San Diego native, got her start on the San Diego culinary scene as the executive chef at Uptown Tavern, according to a news release. She later developed a following with her pop-up Brujas Cocina, serving handmade tortillas and tamales across Barrio Logan and City Heights.
A taco from Huerta at Fox Point Farms. (Maria Russo)Huerta means “vegetable garden” in Spanish and on Gonzalez’s menu, every taco features ingredients sourced just steps from the kitchen. The core four tacos on the menu include Kohlrabi Adobada (with banana leaf and achiote compressed kohlrabi, jamaica-pickled red onions, salsa negra and cilantro), Baja Beer Battered Fish featuring Fox Point Brewing beer, Carnitas and Smoked Brisket Barbacoa. Each taco is served on hand-pressed corn tortillas infused with sunflower petals.
Huerta is open Tuesday through Thursday from 4-8 p.m., Fridays from 4-9 p.m. Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fox Point Farms is located at 1150 Quail Gardens Drive.
