Russian/Ukrainian war: Pierre Asselin, a history professor at SDSU, will discuss Russias war against Ukraine from an historical and contemporary perspective during the 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 Rancho Bernardo Chapter of the Brandeis National Committee meeting. Kids free throw contest: Poway Elks Lodge #2543 is holding its annual Hoop Shoot for boys and girls ages 8 through 13 at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. Thanksgiving service: The Poway Interfaith Team (POINT) will hold its annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 followed by hospitality time until 9 p.m. at the Community Church of Poway, 13501 Community Road. The theme is “Grateful Connections: Unexpected Friendships.” There will be music, a land acknowledgment, speakers of different faith traditions, cultural performances, special activities and refreshments. Hikers should have a reasonably good level of fitness for this 4.6-mile round-trip hike. Meet at the bus shelter in the parking lot.
